Social media marketing has a direct effect on search engine rankings and engines are using social voting systems and bookmarking trends to determine quality sites.
This is a good article, with some nice information on how search engines use social media sites to influence SERPs. Especially interesting is the coverage of patents that seem to hint at how this information is used to affect ranking.

Facebook deleted the profile of “Ranger Rick”, the spokes-raccoon for the National Wildlife Federation. It should be a crime. And it brings up the question, who owns your friends? On a network like facebook, digg, or myspace, you may not have another way to contact those people. Are we at the mercy of these sites?

JB over at Crunchgear has the exclusive on the “upcoming” Google Phone, supposedly set to launch in Q1 2008. His source is someone inside HTC, the company that Google’s working with to pick one of 20 models to finalize their design.
Wow, I really wanted an iPhone, because they are cool. But a Google Phone! It doesn’t get any better than that. Here’s a list of why the Google Phone is cool:
- It’s free, but serves you ads
- It works on any network
- It provides the most relevant user experience
- “I’m feeling lucky” feature for phone book

This is what I need to do. I have 3 computers that I work and play on. On 2 different operating systems. One of these days I’ll get it all together.

So your sitting there on Saturday morning, sipping on a nice warm cup of coffee or tea, smell the freshness of the morning, and whipping up some html, CSS and trying out some new AJAX programming. Your stuck on something, you wish you had a quick cheat sheet to get you back on track.
This is handy. It’s like someone got hold of my bookmarks.html file. Although I’m not sure how handy it is for “developers”. There seem to be a few sections missing, like the php, java, ruby, and python ones. I’m sure there are people that use microsoft tools also, but do you really need cheat sheets to see where to click?
